Biography
Steve Burns has more than 25 years' experience in golf course design. He is a nationally certified Landscape Architect, registered in Illinois, Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, and Washington (inactive), with a degree in Landscape Architecture from the Ohio State University.
After his graduation in 1981, Steve spent seven years with Fazio Golf Course Designers, Inc., generally regarded as the top golf course design firm in the world. During his employment with Fazio, Steve had major design responsibility for a number of highly respected Fazio designs. Steve left Fazio, in 1988, to form Burns Golf Design. Steve's design work, and attention to budgets, earned him both a 1999 and a 2000 "Board Room Magazine Excellence in Achievement Award." Steve is the only golf architect that won this award both years.
In 2006, Steve accepted the position of Vice President at Thompson Dyke & Associates, Ltd., a Chicago based, twenty-five person land planning, landscape architecture, and golf course design firm. He currently directs construction phase services and golf course design for the firm.
