When the Florida Department of Transportation began a huge roadway expansion, Harrison Minchew, ASGCA determined that Arrowhead Golf Club, adjacent to the affected road, would need to be completely rebuilt to accommodate fill generated from new ponds that are needed as storm water retention for the expanded roadway.
The owner of Arrowhead decided to sell the facility to the Florida Department of Transportation, and Minchew assisted the project lead in designing, obtaining permits, and putting together bid documents in only six-and-a-half months. Storm drainage and ponds were completed on schedule, and the final steps in irrigation installation, finish shaping, greens and bunkers construction, landscaping, and grassing are scheduled to be completed in May 2010.
The main feature of the course is a five-acre filter marsh that initially accepts roadway runoff. The marsh adds beauty to the course and ensures good water quality.
