Writer Steve Pajak of The Sacramento Bee recently conducted an interview with Perry Dye, ASGCA, who shared his thoughts on Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, and on building shorter courses.
Cavanaugh is an 18-hole, par 71 course built on 88 acres and measuring a maximum of 6,100, according to the article. Dye said that he is particularly happy with how the course serves its market correctly, using less land and less impact and making golf affordable and accessible to the public.
Dye also shared that he believes the key to designing a good island par-3 is remembering that is meant to be short, the article reports. Dye said that in these situations, a hole becomes difficult because it puts players between clubs.
