Pine Lakes Golf Course on Jekyll Island, Georgia, renovated in 2002 by Clyde Johnston, ASGCA, recently received certification in Environmental Planning from the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses, reports Erika Capek in a recent article from USA Today.
Capek writes that the golf course now includes new lakes and bunkers, redesigned greens and drainage improvements, and other property preservation and enhancement efforts. The course enhanced and protected its wildlife habitat in such a way that deer now roam close to the tree canopies, wood storks roost in the trees, and herons and palm warblers fly overhead, the article reports.
The 18-hole course was originally designed and built in 1968.
