Jeffrey D. Brauer, ASGCA Past President, began his career in his native Chicago after graduating from the University of Illinois. In 1984, he formed Jeffrey D. Bauer/GolfScapes in Arlington, Texas, which has since designed more than 50 new courses and remodeled more than 80. Most work is in the public sector, where he seeks to raise public course design quality to country club standards.
Award-winning courses include back–to–back Golf Digest "Best New" winners for the Quarry at Giant's Ridge in Biwabik, Minnesota, in 2004 and The Wilderness at Fortune Bay in 2005, and seven overall placements on Golf Digest's "Best New" list. Other "Best New" awards include Zagat's Best New course for 2001 at Cowboy Golf Club, in Grapevine, TX. Golf Magazine, Golf Week and others have bestowed other awards.
Jeff currently writes the monthly golf course design column for at Golf Course Industry, offering a blend of thoughtful ideas and practical tips for golf courses everywhere. He is an industry leader in promoting shorter tees and courses and Woman/Family Friendly Design and calculating "Return on Investment" for renovations.
His firm is new school in thought, but old school in preparing accurate plans for cost control, combined with extensive field time to get the best results.
