1918 - 1985
Dr. Marvin Ferguson designed quality golf course that reflected his knowledgeable background in the field of turf grass management. A graduate of Texas A&M University, he later received his PhD degree from the University of Maryland. The next thirty years were dedicated towards turf grass management, by working on turf grass research for the USGA Green Section and Texas A&M. He went on to play a major role in the USGA’s method for green construction. He also received an award from the USGA’s Green Section for his research in turf grass.
In 1969, he started his career in golf course architecture. His designs provided a strategic layout and excellent turf grass conditions.
Dr. Marvin Ferguson was elected into ASGCA in 1970 as a Regular member and served the organization for 15 years, including time on the Society’s Research Committee.
