Bob was shown the wonders of golf at a young age by his father and grandfather. He began caddying and playing at age eight and he quickly became captivated by the challenges of golf. After graduating from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, he decided that he wanted to pursue a career in golf course design. He attended North Carolina State University and earned a Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture in 1983. Bob started his career with Jerry Turner & Associates but joined JMP Golf Design Group in 1990. He became principal at JMP Golf Design Group in 1994 and has played a vital role in the firm entering the Southeast Asia market. Bob has designed courses in the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia as well as here in the U.S., specifically North Carolina and California. Bob firmly believes that it is his job as a golf course architect to provide challenging, memorable, thoughtful settings for the game of golf which he describes as, "an experience like no other."
