Robert F. Moote, father of current ASGCA member David L. Moote, was born and raised in Canada. After earning a degree from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Moote worked with Stanley Thompson, one of ASGCA's founding fathers. 

After spending a few years away from golf course architecture, Moote returned in 1957 and served twenty years as a construction supervisor and superintendent at Oakdale Golf & Country Club near Toronto. During that time frame, Moote also did part-time work with C.E. Robinson and served as a greens consultant to the Royal Canadian Golf Association. In 1976, he entered private practice under the name R. F. Moote and Associates. In the early '80's his son, David, joined him in the design business.

Moote became an ASGCA member in 1980 and was elected to Fellow status in 1996.
