University of Kentucky (Bachelor of Science, Landscape Architecture)

Tyler Rae, a University of Kentucky graduate of Landscape Architecture, has been immersed in the Game of Golf and its playing fields since a very young age. Prior to operating his own firm, Tyler worked with noted Golf Architect and Golden Age restoration expert Ron Prichard for eight years, in the design office with Golf Architect Keith Foster for three years, as well as out in the field with Coore & Crenshaw. Tyler also ran and shaped multi-million dollar projects in the dirt for an International Golf Course Builder for four years, learning how courses come to life in the field. During that span, he built new courses and restored older golf courses for designers such as Tom Doak and Bruce Hepner, Robert Trent Jones Jr., Rees Jones, Tom Fazio, John Fought and past Augusta National Superintendent Billy Fuller.

Since his first job in the golf industry in 1998, Tyler has carefully crafted his career and built a design company which now has a workload that employs several staff members: Lead Design Associate and Golf Course Shaper, Jim Ryan, Jr.; Design Associate, Tim Lewis; Design Assistant, Sean Rariden; and Forestry Consultant, Barry Emens. Tyler’s emphasis continues to focus on Donald Ross, Seth Raynor, A.W. Tillinghast, William Flynn and other Golden Age Architects’ restoration and renovation work while also building and designing new golf courses from scratch.

When Tyler isn’t working, you can usually find him with his wife and two children at his home club or on the road walking and playing golf courses he hasn’t seen to view their architectural merit and varied properties. To date, he has played 98 out of the Top 100 Courses in the World and all of the Top 100 Courses in the US and is a panelist for Golf Magazine. He has visited over 2,000 golf courses in places such as Canada, British Isles, South America, Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania and keeps a documented drawing and photo library of them in his office.”
