In a “Tartan Talks” podcast with Golf Course Industry, ASGCA President Jeff Blume (Jeffrey D. Blume, Ltd.) discusses managing stormwater in golf course architecture and stresses the importance of promoting the economic viability of golf to the masses.
Blume reflects on the impact to his hometown of Houston, by Hurricane Harvey, both from a golf and a general community standpoint. While a handful of golf courses have closed, those that remain have committed to improving their facilities in ways both large and small, getting back to play as quickly as possible.
He has worked on a number of public/private projects throughout his career, where facilities serve as stormwater retention or water bypass areas to benefit the community. Golf courses are updated, and cities get the water abatement they need; a classic “win-win.”
