Rain Bird’s residential and commercial controllers have set the industry standard for efficient, sophisticated and intuitive irrigation control. Because savvy irrigation contractors are always on the lookout for additional ways to save both time and money, Rain Bird is introducing a new product that makes implementing these controllers an even wiser choice—the Landscape Irrigation and Maintenance Remote (LIMR).
The LIMR Wireless Remote gives contractors the ability to activate their customers’ controller devices without having to physically access their controllers. The LIMR consists of two primary components—a receiver and a handheld transmitter with an LCD screen and key pad. The receiver attaches to the Rain Bird controller and relays information sent by the contractor through the remote device, effectively telling the controller what to do. According to Scott Rottler, product manager for Rain Bird controllers, the LIMR will virtually eliminate the need for two-person service calls.
“Without this type of remote device, it can take two employees to perform tasks like system winterization, for example—one person to activate the zones and another to blow out the system,” Rottler explained. “With the LIMR, one person can do both tasks without having to walk back and forth. The same goes for any maintenance service call. In this way, the LIMR reduces business operating costs by requiring fewer employees to handle the service call and decreasing the total amount of time spent at a jobsite.”
The LIMR can also speed up system checks and sprinkler head alignment during installation. Contractors can turn zones on or off manually and jump from zone to zone with no need to go through each zone sequentially. A “system test” function allows the user to specify the number of minutes, the starting zone and the ending zone. Unlike other controller remotes, the LIMR features 2-way communication. After the receiver is installed, the receiver is able to transmit information such as time remaining during a system test back to the remote, which then displays this information on its LCD screen. The information on the backlit LCD screen can be displayed in English, Spanish or French, making the remote easy to understand and use regardless of the contractor’s primary language.
Able to operate up to 255 zones, the LIMR Wireless Controller Remote is well-suited for both residential and commercial use. The device can store the addresses of up to 128 receivers, and contractors can create custom names for up to 20 different receivers, making operation even faster and more simplified. The LIMR is compatible with many of Rain Bird’s most popular controllers—the ESP-Modular, ESP-SMT, ESP-LX Modular, STPi and the ESP-LX+. “In fact, the LIMR Wireless Remote is the only remote available that is compatible with the ESP-SMT and the STPi,” Rottler added. “That makes it an invaluable tool for contractors who install and service those particular controller models.”
