Todd Quitno, ASGCA (Lohmann Quitno Golf Course Architects) has been part of the golf world since age 10. He shares his passion, his hobby and his golf course architecture career in a “Tartan Talks” podcast with Golf Course Industry.
Quitno tells Guy Cipriano that raising his children, including sons age 11 and 9, has provided a new perspective on designing facilities that welcome all ages and skill levels. Ideal facility for family is “a par 3 course that I would enjoy playing, with more varying lengths and even a short par 4, that includes options for 9- or 12-hole loops.”
“To understand what makes a good facility, you also have to see some bad facilities, and look to understand the user experience. That mean’s getting out of the office and going out and playing.”
Quitno interned in the office of ASGCA Past President Bob Lohmann while in college, was hired the next year, and has worked with him for more than 20 years.
“One thing we integrate into our work is technology. We have GPS units and drone technology, and have also stepped into social media, which is a powerful tool that we are still learning how to use,” Quitno said.
