In the recent edition of Asian Golf Business, the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) shared useful information for golf course owners or clubs planning a remodeling project.
The article says that the competition to attract new players to a facility, combined with the aging of many courses, constitutes the primary reasons to remodel. It is essential to identify basic goals for the remodeling project, and courses are encouraged to bring an ASGCA member on board to begin the remodeling process.
The next step is to define a scope of work and to develop a master plan to bring the entire project into focus. The master plan includes a prioritization of goals and objectives, a visual plan of areas of improvement, phasing recommendations, optional approaches, and probable costs.
The article also discusses disruption of the golf course during remodeling; selecting a golf course builder; and ideas for project funding.
