In a recent article from the Aurora Beacon-News, writer Jim Owczarski discusses the impact Greg Martin, ASGCA has had on his local community.
According to the article, Martin decided to stay in his hometown area to build his golf course architecture business. While he cannot pinpoint a specific reason for this decision, Martin credits his fondness for Perry Maxwell’s classic Midwest designs as one reason. “I know the golf courses that intrigued me the most are ones that are about as simple as they get, but they still provide magic and intrigue,” Martin said.
Owczarski writes that Martin has designed about 10 local courses and is currently working on the renovation of the bunkering and construction of a new green at Arrowhead Golf Club. With course construction at a crawling pace, Martin’s reputation and ability to manage public dollars led to his selection for several previous course improvement projects in the area.
