Golf course architect Clyde Johnston, ASGCA provides hands-on attention to every project designed for the client's needs and budget. We provide sustainable design and consultation services for both new golf courses as well as golf course remodeling. Our past projects include golf course designs for public courses, private courses, resort, military as well as residential community golf courses. We prefer to work with the natural contours and vegetation of the land rather than force the golf course design on it. Our design style is based on the features of the land and the owner's desires for the project. Each site is different so each golf course design is different. As golf course architects we must be good stewards of the land and protect the environmental qualities of each site. Golf course remodeling projects are a specialty for Clyde Johnston, ASGCA. Most renovation projects involve numerous people and committees in the planning process and it is our experience that the leader of that effort should be the golf course architect. We have completed total course redesigns as well as restoration work. Clyde's design of the Old South Golf Links in Hilton Head was voted one of Golf Digest's Top 10 New Public Courses in 1992. He worked at Willard Byrd and Associates for many years as well as for Ron Kirby and Gary Player's firm before founding Clyde Johnston Designs, Inc. in 1987.

Johnston was elected to membership in ASGCA in 1985 and served on the Board of Governors for two terms, then as president in 2002-2003. He is also a licensed Landscape Architect in South Carolina and a member of ASLA since 1977. Johnston was elected to the Lowcountry Golf Hall of Fame in March of 2018.
