Dr. Malcom Purdy, known as “Mal” Purdy, grew up in Lima, Ohio and was influenced by the game after spending time on golf courses operated by his father, Hal Purdy. Dr. Mal Purdy received his doctorate from Purdue University in Industrial Psychology. He spent about 15 years in that field before eventually returning to the game of golf. In 1967, he joined his father’s design firm, which changed its name to The Purdys.

Purdy was elected into the ASGCA in 1972 as a Regular member and served 11 years until his death in 1983.
