How does a Michigan native who grew up bleeding Maize and Blue wind up at Michigan State and a life in golf course architecture? Ray Hearn, ASGCA (Ray Hearn Golf Course Designs, Inc.), explains in the latest “Tartan Talks” podcast with Golf Course Industry.
In a conversation with Guy Cipriano, Hearn talks about carving out three neighborhood holes as a teen, and as a young man (literally) calling the office of Robert Trent Jones, Sr., more than 30 times before the ASGCA founding member took his call.
The direction and insight included spending time as an assistant golf course superintendent, leading to a position with Jerry Matthews, ASGCA…and the education continues to this day.
