Kevin Atkinson, ASGCA Associate, architect with Phelps/Atkinson Golf Design, will be involved with the redesign of three holes prone to flooding on the Edgewood Golf Course in Fargo, North Dakota, as reported by Golf Course Industry on April 26, 2010.
Edgewood is nearly encircled by the Red River, which is susceptible to flooding. Revamping three holes on the front nine will protect vulnerable areas from spring water intrusion and flooding that result from summer thunderstorms, according to Duinick Golf principal Judd Duinick.
Atkinson said the key to the project is to selectively raise tees, greens, and fairways, keeping the grass alive and out of the main path of the water.
