In the Spring 2010 edition of “By Design,” writer Adam Lawrence explores water as a central strategic issue for both new and existing courses around the world. He shares his thoughts on how the industry can alleviate the water problem and prove that it is serious about water.
Lawrence writes that irrigation system efficiency is key, particularly consistency and good irrigation management. Because irrigation systems are expensive, suppliers are pushing a message of cost-effectiveness that is especially focused on low-cost upgrades such as sprinkler nozzles, according to the article.
The essence of the water issues, says Lawrence, is course conditions, pointing out the water issue really comes down to what golfers expect from courses. He writes that the game as a whole needs to take a step back and return to a more natural approach.
