Jay Morrish has been active since the 1960’s, when he served an internship with Robert Trent Jones and worked with George Fazio.  Throughout the 1970’s, he worked with Jack Nicklaus.  In the 1980’s, Morrish partnered with Tom Weiskopf to create more than twenty courses, including Troon Golf and Country Club, Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale, Forrest Highlands, and Shadow Glen.  Morrish now works with his son Carter in Texas.  He was president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 2002.

Many years ago, while working for Jack Nicklaus, I received a telephone call from a supposed developer with a property in Fort Lauderdale. It was the kind of call a golf architect dreams of receiving.

“I want to build a world class golf course capable of hosting PGA tournaments,” he said. “Money is not a problem.”

I was elated!

“How many acres do you have?” I asked.

“Twenty-seven,” he replied.

The conversation ended shortly after that.
