The annual “Golf Industry Report” from the National Golf Foundation shows great strength for the industry in the United States, with a record economic impact and steady number of on-course players. Also, the number of folks interested in playing the game has increased, as has the amount of off-course golf activities.
Nearly 24 million golfers played more than 456 million rounds of golf in 2017, according to NGF, and the industry’s economic impact on the United States is an impressive $84 billion.
Young adults (ages 18 to 34) accounted for 6.2 million of the on-course golfers. That total remains the same from 2016, “contradicting claims that the sport continues to lose millennial golfers” according to the NGF. More than 2.5 million new players came to the game, the fourth consecutive year there has been an increase in this area.
