The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) welcomed eight new Associate Members to its ranks at the group’s 63rd Annual Meeting in Seattle, Wash.

 The election of Scott Fisher, Robert McNeil, Cal Olson, Jeff Potts, Randy Russell, Doug Smith, Shawn Smith and Mark Voss brings ASGCA membership to 188.

Scott Fisher: Fisher is Principal of Fisher Golf Design of Sylvania, Ohio. He holds a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University and lists the following representative courses: Red Hawk Run Golf Club, Findlay, Ohio; White Clay Creek Country Club, Wilmington, Del. and Rose Creek Golf Club, Edmond, Okla.

Robert McNeil­: McNeil is President of the Northeast Golf Company, Saunderstown, R.I. He holds degrees from Bryant University (B.A./B.S.) and The Ohio State University (M.L.A.). His representative courses include The Club at River Oaks, Sherman, Conn.; Skyview Golf Club, Sparta, N.J. and a remodel of Battleground Country Club, Manalapan, N.J.

Cal Olson: Olson is a Civil Engineer, holding a degree earned from Cal Poly Pomona, as well as a Registered Landscape Architect. He is Owner of Cal Olson Golf Architecture, based in Aliso Viejo, Calif. He has designed The Links at Summerly, Lake Elsinore, Calif.; Stone Creek, Sherman, Texas and a redesign of Skylinks at Long Beach, Long Beach, Calif.

Jeff Potts: Potts is Vice President, Director of Golf Design and Construction for Landmark Land Company in Upper Marlboro, Md. He is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, where he earned a B.A. in Biology. His representative courses include the following: Lost Canyons Golf Club, Sky and Shadow Courses, Simi Valley, Calif.; Arcos Gardens Golf and Country Estate, Arcos de la Frontera, Spain and Murder Rock Golf and Country Club, Branson, Mo.

Randy Russell: Russell holds Bachelors degrees in Biology from Mississippi College and Agronomy/Turf Management from Mississippi State University. He is Principal of Russell Golf Design, based in Austin, Texas. His designs include The Club at Waterford, Marble Falls, Texas; Black Bear, Delhi, La. and University of Texas Golf Club, Austin, Texas.

Doug Smith: Smith is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (B.L.A., B.F.A.) and Providence College (B.A.). He is a Partner in Stephen Kay • Doug Smith Golf Course Design in Eastchester, N.Y. He has designed The Hamlet at Willow Creek Golf & Country Club, Mt. Sinai, N.Y.; The Links at Union Vale, LaGrangeville, N.Y. and Kulm C.C., Kulm, N.D.

Shawn Smith: Smith is Senior Design Associate with Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates in Toledo, Ohio. He earned his B.S. in Landscape Architecture from Washington State University and lists the following representative courses: Eagle Ridge Golf Course at Yatesville Lake State Park, Louisa, Ky.; Wolfdancer Golf Club, Lost Pines, Texas and The Journey at Pechanga, Temecula, Calif.

Mark Voss: Voss is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. He is Senior Project Architect with Robert Trent Jones II in Palo Alto, Calif. He has designed Miramont Golf Club, Bryan, Texas; The Golf Club at Rainmakers, Alto, N.M. and Al Badia Golf Resort, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Candidates for Associate Membership in ASGCA complete a rigorous, multi-phase application process that includes peer review of four completed courses, discussions with project owners and a personal interview to assess the candidate’s professional capabilities. This process typically takes two years for an applicant to complete.
