The Links at Perry Cabin (St. Michael’s Maryland) will open in Spring 2018 on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Chesapeake Bay. Designed by ASGCA Past President Pete Dye, ASGCA Fellow, the Links is an 18-hole layout that will play through trees and over significant elevation changes.
“This golf course is exciting because it incorporates all of the Pete Dye mysterious things that he does,” said ASGCA Past President Alice Dye, Pete’s wife and long-time design collaborator. “As you go along, it builds up and you see a little Pete Dye here and a few more Pete Dye elements there, and then you get to the 16th hole and the final three holes are so exciting.”
The Dyes describe The Links at Perry Cabin as a family “mulligan” because Pete worked on a course at the same site in the 1960’s with his late brother Roy Andy Dye before the developer went bankrupt. The new course—a total rebuild designed by Pete Dye with additional input from Alice and their son, P.B. Dye, ASGCA—is now part of the luxurious resort.
“Several holes have a links-style feeling with continuous movement and some mounding that almost looks like natural sand dunes,” explained P.B. “The 7th has the same philosophy as the 9th hole at Yale, a famous ‘Biarritz’ hole with a big saddle in the middle of the green.”
P.B. continued, “At the turn, you enter into an almost parkland-type course, holes 10 – 15 are in the woods with majestic old trees. You feel as if the course has been there for years. Then the last three holes—what we call the ‘Good Night Kiss’—golfers are going to remember, with a short par 4, a replica of the island green from TPC Sawgrass, and the 18th will be one of the most majestic finishing holes in golf.”
St. Michael’s, Maryland, is located about 60 miles from Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) and 90 miles from Washington, D.C.
