A. John Harvey has been actively involved in the golf course architecture profession since he graduated with high honors from Michigan State University with a B.L.A. in landscape architecture. After completion of his studies, John spent eight years with Robert Trent Jones, Sr., as a design associate, where he worked on a number of new course and renovation projects with Mr. Jones and Roger Rulewich throughout the United States and abroad. Highlights of his work with Messrs. Jones and Rulewich include the famed Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama, Adare Manor in Ireland and Celtic Manor in Wales. In 1995, John joined the Roger Rulewich Group as a design associate, where he worked on a myriad of new golf course design and renovation projects. In 2002, he joined forces with The RBA Group where he led the golf course design services division. John formed his new firm, A. John Harvey Golf Course Design, LLC in March of 2011, where he continues to cultivate new work and serve long-standing clients. He is the author of several environmental case studies for successful golf course projects and has also served as a guest lecturer at Rutgers University for several turfgrass courses. He is proud of his mantra of creating strategic and memorable golf course designs while treading lightly on the land. He enjoys working with owners, developers, superintendents and memberships striving to bring out the best golf features while keeping economic, social and environmental stewardship in mind with new course and renovation design.
