At the Golf Industry Show held in San Diego, CA on February 10 - 11, 2010, Rick Phelps, ASGCA and Mike Benkusky, ASGCA offered their insight on current trends in the golf industry and on important items to consider when undertaking construction projects.
Phelps noted that current industry movement is toward course remodeling. He stated that courses are searching for ways to both save costs long-term and adjust their stance in the marketplace. According to Phelps, courses might meet these goals by having a golf course architect draft a master plan that can be implemented piece by piece over time.
Benkusky advised course superintendents and managers to sharpen their focus when entering into a construction or remodeling project. He said that having a concentrated vision can help courses avoid common mistakes, such as a lack of planning or incorrect budgeting for a project.
