As the long winter finally melts away to spring, ASGCA Past President Doug Carrick has a number of new and ongoing projects in Canada which continue to progress.

The highlighted projects span the sie and scope of ASGCA member skills, as noted here:

* Carrick Design was recently appointed as consulting architects to the Point Grey Golf & Country Club in Vancouver. Point Grey is a mature parkland layout that was founded in 1922. The Club overlooks the Fraser River and has a rich tradition and history in Canadian golf.

* Lebovic Golf Club, Aurora, Ontario

Construction work that began in June 2012 is progressing nicely with pond lining activities that continued throughout the late winter months. As more suitable construction weather approaches over the next few weeks the shaping and grading of course features will resume, with seeding scheduled to begin in mid-May. The project has required the implementation of numerous sensitive environmental features and mitigation techniques including the creation of wetlands, as shown below on the 10th hole. The course is scheduled to open in 2015.

* Friday Harbour Resort, Lake Simcoe Ontario

Construction is progressing with more than 600,000 cubic meters of earth moved to date. Excavation of the marina basin proceeded through the winter months with the earth being transported to the golf course. The management of frost laden soil and controlled compaction have been the focus of winter earthmoving activities. The golf course is designed to accommodate more than 1.8 million cubic meters of earth from the marina excavation. Shaping of the course features will begin this summer with drainage and irrigation installation planned for the summer of 2015. The golf course is scheduled to open in 2016.

* Cataraqui Golf & Country Club

Cataraqui Golf & Country Club, located in Kingston, Ontario is scheduled to begin a comprehensive bunker remodelling project this year. This Stanley Thompson designed course is one of his best preserved layouts. Primary focus will be in preserving and enhancing the design flair that Thompson was so well known for. Carrick Design have provided design consulting to Cataraqui Golf & CC since 1993.

Carrick Design has provided design services to Burlington Golf & Country Club, located in Burlington, Ontario, since 2004.

* Westmount Golf & Country Club

Carrick is ready for the unveiling of renovations to the Westmount Golf & Country Club, which were completed last fall. Carrick re-shaped of all bunkers and re-designed of the 11th and 12th greens.
