ASCGA Treasurer Lee Schmidt and his business partner, fellow ASGCA member Brian Curley, have completed a total remodel of Nanlihu Golf Club on China’s tropical Hainan Island.

Located 45 minutes south of the capital city of Haikou, the par-72, 7,000-plus yard layout adjoins scenic Nanli Lake. Schmidt spearheaded the complete course transformation.

Wickedly shaped, grass-faced bunkers complement undulating Paspalum fairways and boldly contoured green surfaces. Full-grown palm trees were transplanted throughout to immediately give the course a mature look.

“With an improved routing, wall-to-wall Paspalum turf, enhanced strategic options and 11 holes bordering the lake, Nanlihu is now a stern, picturesque test for all to enjoy,” Schmidt said. “Our firm has successfully performed a number of renovations over the years, from major overhauls to minor tweaks, and relishes opportunities to inject new life into outdated courses.”
