Bill Bergin, ASGCA, and Bergin Golf Designs, have completed a renovation to Oaks Country Club, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The course – orignally designed by A.W. Tillinghast – was closed for a year before re-opening in June.
Bergin made use of an old aerial photograph, base contours of the original greens and a study of bunker styles on numerous well known “Tilly” designs in formulating his plan for the Oaks.
The new design features all new putting surfaces modeled after the original Tillinghast contours, and grass-faced bunkers with modest flashing inspired from Baltusrol, Quaker Ridge and Winged Foot. Selective clearing and cart path repositioning have restored historical fairway widths clearly seen from the club aerial. Tees have been positioned to bring the golf course to modern standards, with significant length added to the championship tees and great attention paid to adding forward tees, ensuring the golf course plays equitably for all skill levels.
