ASGCA Past President Doug Carrick and his firm, Carrick Design, has announced the firm now provides irrigation design service to clients. He recently noted this and several project updates.

Carrick reports Senior Designer Steve Vanderploeg has worked on the technical research and designed a complete irrigation system for the new Westhill Golf Course, currently under construction in Aurora, Ontario. Installation of the system is expected to begin later in 2013.

On the project front:

Westhill Golf Club, Aurora, Ontario

Construction work that began in June 2012 on a new Carrick Design golf course called Westhill

Golf Club located in Aurora, Ontario is progressing nicely with earthmoving and pond lining activities that continued throughout the winter months. As more suitable construction weather approaches over the next few weeks, shaping and grading of the course features will re-commence. The Bentofix pond lining material has allowed work to proceed even through frozen conditions.

The liner will also allow for a more natural looking pond edge with native topsoil covering over the fabric.

The course is scheduled to open in 2015.

Friday Harbour Resort, Lake Simcoe Ontario

Construction of the Friday Harbour Golf Course located on the south shore of Kempenfelt Bay, at Big Bay Point on Lake Simcoe is progressing well with more than 400,000 cubic meters of earth moved to date. Excavation of the marina basin proceeded through the winter months with the earth being transported to the golf course.

The golf course is designed to accommodate more than 1.8 million cubic meters of earth from the marina excavation. Shaping of the course features will begin this summer with drainage and irrigation installation planned for the summer of 2014.

The golf course is scheduled to open in 2015.
