ASGCA Past President Erik Larsen is the designer behind construction of a new golf course in Atlantic Beach, Fla.’s Selva Marina Country Club.
“Golf Course Architecture” reports course construction will begin later this year.
“Replacing the existing course at the site, the Erik Larsen-designed 6,815 yard, par 71 championship course is due to be opened in October 2014. The club will also change its name to Atlantic Beach Country Club when reopened.
“The course once hosted the Great Jacksonville Open, which later became the Players Championship, but saw a period of degeneration before the recent project began.
“Extra land was found within the course and has been sold for housing, allowing the club and the Atlantic Beach Partners to re-plan and re-finance in order to make the improvements.
“Larsen told GCA that construction work should start in December, and would be a ‘complete redo.’”
