Robert McNeil, ASGCA, has begun work on a nine-hole facility at Sun Garden Hotel and Spa in Romania, destined to become the first new facility in the nation’s northwest region.
Golf in Romania is not new. In fact, there is a course outside of Bucharest dating back to 1937. But golf in the northwest region of Transylvania, in particular in the university city of Cluj is new. So new in fact, the projects owner has declared his building of the Sun Garden Golf Club an act of courage. Almost a build it and they will come strategy.
Construction has begun on a “sporty, countryside” 9-hole layout that will serve as an added amenity for visitors to the Sun Garden Hotel and Spa and for players in the region to enjoy. McNeil is working with hotelier and entrepreneur, Nicholae Capusan to develop the course.
It is projected that the construction of the course will take about two years to complete with the portions of the course to opened along the way as part of a teaching and learning center.
