A $7.5 million renovation has broken ground at BallenIsles Country Club (Palm Beach Gardens, Florida). Rees Jones, ASGCA, (Rees Jones, Inc.), is leading the project on the South course, which includes a full tee-to-green redesign, new irrigation system, cart paths and bunkers.
Golf Course Industry reports:
“We are creating a classic style,” said Jones. “The original architects laid out the course well and provided us ample playing corridor to build a thought-provoking course. The remodelled layout will have an ebb and flow throughout the round, and I believe the members are going to enjoy the changes.”
The course was originally designed by Joe Lee and Dick Wilson and built in 1964.
“The South course’s routing and layout are solid,” said BallenIsles director of golf Jeff Fitzherbert. “This renovation project will create a much more attractive course visually, while maintaining and enhancing existing integrity. When complete, members will enjoy a dramatically improved golf experience and have additional shot options during their rounds. We’re excited to have Rees Jones leading the renovation project.”
New forward tees will be added, allowing for five or six tee settings and angles on each hole. Before-and-after plans of the holes also reveal additional measures to include playability, such as providing alternative routes around a forced water carry on the par-four fifth and the tying in of approaches to putting surfaces on several holes.
The project will be managed by Troon’s Ron Despain and Total Golf will handle construction.
The project is expected to be completed in September 2019, with a view to opening for December.
