A nine-hole par-three course and golf entertainment center near Sacramento, California, will be designed by ASGCA Past President Forrest Richardson and Jeff Danner, ASGCA (Richardson | Danner, Golf Course Architects). Planning will be completed this fall, with groundbreaking in 2023.

The new development is planned on 34 acres of land by Highway 50, south of the tribe’s Red Hawk Casino.
Richardson and Danner will work with Acorn, (Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians) official development organization, and community planning company Swaback to plan the short course and golf facilities, which will be designed with a sustainable approach incorporating water-saving technology.
“It’s an exciting site with great potential,” said Jeff Danner. “Together with Jeff Denzak at Swaback, we will create family fun and entertainment for the Shingle Springs tribal community. With a focus on golf and outdoor spaces, it will not only serve those visiting and travelling along the US Route 50 between Lake Tahoe and Sacramento, but residents throughout El Dorado Hills County.”
Richardson added: “It’s a new age. We’re no longer designing just for the game we grew up playing, but for a whole new generation of golfers – many who simply want to have fun as opposed to keeping score. The biggest difference we see is how the playing board of the game is changing – today it’s often smaller and connected with wi-fi in every corner. Today’s golf facility is more interactive than any of us could ever have envisioned.”
Facilities will include a driving range with launch monitors and gaming technology, and a miniature golf course. Richardson and Danner will oversee work by National Golf Foundation, Synergy Consultants and PutTek, which will be responsible for golf marketing, entertainment integration and the miniature golf concept respectively.
“This new approach to golf is taking off across the world,” said Danner. “The realization that the most social game ever invented does not have to fit a certain mold is now, more than ever, at the forefront of how we approach projects to make them successful and sustainable into the future.”
